CNB Governor Aleš Michl launches new edition of Alois Rašín’s National Economy
On Monday 26 May 2025, the Czech National Bank’s Visitor Centre hosted the official launch of a new edition of National Economy, the seminal work by Alois Rašín. The book was published by Aleš Čeněk Publishing and features a foreword by CNB Governor Aleš Michl, who christened the new edition together with Alois Rašín’s great-granddaughter, Ms Karolina Breitenmoser-Stransky, and actor Ondřej Vetchý, who portrayed Alois Rašín in the biographical film Rašín.
“Determination and principle – two qualities that were crucial then and remain crucial today. Alois Rašín embodied both, and that is precisely why we decided to support the publication of this book. Without him, we would not have price stability or a stable koruna. His approach to inflation, monetary policy and savings is timeless, inspiring, and still relevant,” said Governor Aleš Michl at the ceremonial launch.
The new edition of Rašín’s book offers readers not only an insight into the history of Czech economic thought, but also valuable inspiration for today’s macroeconomic considerations – including topics such as fiscal responsibility, sustainable wage growth, and meaningful investment of public funds.
With the CNB’s support, the publication pays tribute to one of the most prominent Czech economists and politicians, while also serving as a reminder that economic stability is never accidental – it is the result of consistent work, long-term strategy, and respect for proven principles.
