The CNB’s new schedule of issuance continues popular themes and introduces new ones
The Czech National Bank’s new schedule of issuance for 2026–2030 is sure to please enthusiasts of new themes and fans of the successful “Famous means of transport” series and “Municipal heritage sites” cycle, both of which will be continued. The schedule of issuance for commemorative coins was approved by the CNB Bank Board.
In 2026–2030, the CNB will issue commemorative silver coins in five nominal values (CZK 100, CZK 200, CZK 500, CZK 1,000 and CZK 10,000), gold coins in three nominal values (CZK 1,000, CZK 5,000 and CZK 10,000), a CZK 100 commemorative banknote and a CZK 5,000 circulating banknote with an additional print. “The motifs on the planned numismatic issues will celebrate Czech personalities, art, architecture, means of transport, historical events, institutions and other important areas of our lives. Sports fans won’t be disappointed either,” said CNB Bank Board member Karina Kubelková.
Silver coins
The CNB will continue to issue CZK 100 silver coins from the open-ended cycle Institutions of the Czech Republic in the upcoming issuance period. The CNB will issue five of them in total, for example, one dedicated to the Czech Police (2026) and another to the Supreme Audit Office (2027). The issue will be limited to 50,000 coins.
Five CZK 200 silver coins will also be issued in the issuance period ahead. The coins will commemorate one prominent figure or event each year, for example, entrepreneur Tomáš Baťa Sr. (2026), writer Milan Kundera (2029) and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Jára Cimrman Theatre (2027). The issue will be limited to 50,000 coins.
“Perhaps the most successful of all our numismatic issues are the technically enhanced CZK 500 silver coins from the Famous means of transport series. We will extend the series to include five more remarkable vehicles, and these coins will continue to stand out due to their unique processing method,” says Karina Kubelková. The CNB will issue a CZK 500 silver coin depicting the Zetor Z-25 tractor in 2026 and one featuring the Praga V3S truck in 2027. The issue will be limited to 30,000 coins.
In the 2026–2030 issuance period, new CZK 1,000 silver coins featuring sports motifs will be introduced. They will depict, for example, football (2026), tennis (2028) and chess (2030). The issue will be limited to 30,000 coins.
The CNB will issue CZK 10,000 silver coins to mark the 300th anniversary of the end of minting in Kutná Hora (2026) and the 100th anniversary of the completion of the Cathedral of St Vitus, St Wenceslas and St Adalbert in Prague (2029). The issue will be limited to 20,000 coins.
Gold coins
The CNB will issue a CZK 1,000 gold coin for the first time since 1999, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the opening of the National Bank of Czechoslovakia (2026). The issue will be limited to 20,000 coins.
Municipal heritage sites will be depicted on CZK 5,000 gold coins. “We decided to continue with the issuance of gold coins dedicated to municipal heritage sites. For the period ahead, we have selected another ten cities which not only warrant the attention of the Czech National Bank and collectors. We are delighted to be able to promote beautiful cities from various corners of our country through these gold coins,” added Karina Kubelková. The CNB will issue coins featuring motifs of the municipal heritage sites Plzeň (2026), Lipník nad Bečvou (2027) and Pardubice (2029). The issue will be limited to 20,000 coins.
The CNB will also issue two CZK 10,000 gold coins, commemorating King Ottokar I (2030) and King Ottokar II of Bohemia (2028). The issue will be limited to 20,000 coins.
Banknotes
In 2026, the CNB will issue the final CZK 100 commemorative banknote in the three-part series The establishment of the Czechoslovak currency. The banknote will commemorate Vilém Pospíšil, Alois Rašín’s closest collaborator during the currency separation and at the time of the establishment of an independent Czechoslovak currency. Later he was also the first governor of the National Bank of Czechoslovakia.
In 2026, a CZK 5,000 banknote with an additional print will also be issued to mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of the National Bank of Czechoslovakia.
Change to the schedule of issuance for 2021–2025
The Bank Board also approved that the existing schedule of issuance be extended to include a CZK 10,000 gold coin to mark the 1,100th anniversary of the hypothetical start of the reign of Wenceslas I, Duke of Bohemia. The CNB will issue the coin in 2025. In the same year, instead of a CZK 100 silver coin from the open-ended cycle Institutions of the Czech Republic dedicated to the Office of the President of the Czech Republic, the CNB will issue a coin depicting the General Directorate of Customs. A coin dedicated to the Office of the President of the Czech Republic will be carried over to the next issuance period at the request of the institution.
Numismatic issuance of the Czech National Bank
The issuance of commemorative coins has a long tradition in the Czech lands. The Czechoslovak Republic continued in this tradition in 1923. However, it is only in the last 60 years, i.e. since 1964, that commemorative coins have been issued without interruption. The CNB has issued a total of 148 commemorative silver coins, 60 gold coins and three bimetallic coins since 1993. An absolutely extraordinary heavyweight CZK 100,000,000 gold coin was issued in 2019, which is now on display at the CNB Visitor Centre. In 2024, the CNB will also issue a gold trade coin (ducat) for the first time. The CNB’s issuance of commemorative coins has also been supplemented in recent years by two commemorative banknotes.
The complete Schedule of issuance for commemorative and coins in 2026–2030 is available on the CNB website under Banknotes and coins – Numismatics.
