CNB Vice-Governor Oldřich Dědek comments on the April 2001 inflation figures
10.5.2001
The figures on consumer prices show that inflation picked up in April. Owing to a more
considerable monthly rise in the consumer price index, annual headline inflation rose from 4.1% in
March to 4.6% in April. Net inflation increased from 2.9 % in March to 3.3% in April. The pick-up
in inflation is due largely to a more sizeable rise in certain food prices and growth in prices in
the transport group, where, in response to the recovery in demand and to rising oil prices, fuel
prices have experienced a turnaround in trend. The rise in prices in other groups was less
considerable: prices were flat or fell in month-on-month terms. The pick-up in inflation is
therefore not a general price movement feature and is concentrated more or less into the
traditionally volatile items. In this context, the CNB is not changing its medium-term price and
macroeconomic outlook.
