Czech National Bank starts publishing debt securities issues statistics

On 9 November 2007, the Czech National Bank published the first data of its new statistics monitoring volumes (stocks) of debt securities issued by residents of the Czech Republic. Debt securities are an alternative fund-raising source to bank loans and offer investors a way of investing their free funds. The total volume of the issues provides information on the relative importance of the capital markets compared to bank financial intermediation. For this reason, the debt securities issues statistics are an important supplement to the traditional monetary statistics published by the CNB.

The debt securities issues statistics are published in the ARAD time series system and start in 1999 or 2006, depending on source data availability. The aim is to cover all debt securities issued by Czech residents on domestic as well as foreign markets, irrespective of the place of issue and issuing technique. Given the varying quality of the data sources, the estimated coverage is 90–95%. The debt securities are broken down by economic sector of the issuer, original maturity and currency. Issues of Treasury debt securities, issues by municipalities and issues of mortgage bonds are listed separately. The statistics are compiled on a quarterly or annual basis (depending on the sector of the issuer) and will be released three months after the end of the reference period.
