The CNB is issuing a commemorative silver coin to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Gustav Mahler
On Wednesday 9 June 2010, the Czech National Bank is putting into circulation a silver commemorative 200 Kč coin to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great composer Gustav Mahler.
Gustav Mahler (1860–1911) was born at Kaliště near Humpolec. He spent the first 15 years of his life in Jihlava and the Vysočina region and had other ties with the territory and culture of the present-day Czech Republic (in particular conducting posts in Olomouc and Prague and the world premiere of his Seventh Symphony in Prague on 19 September 1908).
The obverse side of the coin was designed by Miroslava Česlová and the reverse side by Josef Oplištil. The coin is made of an alloy of silver and copper and will be produced by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou. It is minted in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking.
