CNB Vice-Governor Luděk Niedermayer comments on the February inflation figures
8.3.2001
The February inflation figures are slightly more favourable than those expected by the financial
market and the CNB. Following the higher month-on-month outturns in January, the result is
continuing stable and low inflation, which is good for the economy.
The structure of the month-on-month changes shows positive effects from the stabilisation of oil
prices at lower levels, a seasonal decline in some areas - for example clothing - and greater food
price volatility.
With regard to monetary policy settings, the CNB's forecast of low inflationary pressures and a
continuation of the low-inflation trend is being confirmed.
