AI Projects

Do you have an idea for using AI with real-world data? Test it at the CNB.

The CNB offers students the opportunity to propose and develop new applications of artificial intelligence and modern data methods. Selected projects will receive expert guidance, access to relevant data in a secure environment, and the opportunity to develop and test a working prototype.

Topics you can address:

  • Ask data questions in natural language: Search, query and interpret economic, financial and statistical data.
  • AI assistants for CNB knowledge: Work with data, metadata, methodological documentation and other knowledge sources.
  • Data quality and anomaly detection: Use AI to identify inconsistencies, unusual patterns and data quality issues.
  • Automation of analytical work: Streamline repetitive data, statistical and analytical tasks.
  • Unstructured information: Extract, classify, summarise and link information from text documents.
  • Better use of results: Develop new ways to present, explain and make data and analyses more accessible to users.
  • AI reliability: Evaluate the accuracy, robustness and reliability of AI solutions.

Have your own idea? Even better.

The examples above are not an exhaustive list. If you see another meaningful way to use AI or modern data methods in the CNB’s work, propose your own use case. In your proposal, explain the problem you aim to solve, why it is relevant to the CNB, and how you will verify that your solution actually works.

Who Are We Looking For?

  • Students enrolled in Master’s and PhD programmes.
  • Students in data science, computer science, ML/AI, statistics, econometrics, quantitative economics and related fields.
  • You do not need to be an economist. What matters is your ability to work with data and technical methods and to explain how your solution could benefit the CNB.
  • Applicants must have academic supervision and meet the requirements of the Research Cooperation Programme.

Before Submitting a Proposal

  • Deadline: 31 October 2026, 11:59 p.m. CET.
  • Upload three PDF files using the form: a project proposal (maximum 4 standard pages), a structured CV (maximum 2 pages), and a statement from your supervisor (maximum 1 page). The required structure of the project proposal is specified in the Call for Proposals.
  • Please specify the required models, libraries, computing environment and external services in your proposal if you already know them; their availability will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Tools and services that would transfer data outside the CNB’s secure environment cannot be used.
  • The data access contract is concluded between the CNB and your university, not you personally. Please make sure in advance that your university is willing to enter into the contract.

An overview of the databases that can be made available under the programme can be found in the Programme Conditions (pdf, 167 kB). The overview is indicative; the specific scope of data and variables will be determined based on the needs of each selected project.

The available data will also be presented at an information webinar on 8 October at 1:00 p.m. CEST, with an opportunity to ask questions about individual databases.
