Miroslav Singer to be new Czech National Bank Governor

Current Vice-Governor Miroslav Singer appointed CNB Governor for term of six years starting on 1 July 2010

Current Vice-Governor Miroslav Singer is to become the new Governor of the Czech National Bank. On 1 July 2010 he will replace Zdeněk Tůma, who resigned from the top job at the central bank as of 30 June 2010.

At Prague Castle on Friday 18 June 2010, President Václav Klaus appointed 42-year-old economist Miroslav Singer for a term of six years.

After Josef Tošovský and Zdeněk Tůma, Miroslav Singer will be the third Governor of the Czech National Bank since its establishment in 1993.

Miroslav Singer has been a member of the Bank Board and Vice-Governor of the Czech National Bank since 13 February 2005. He has resigned from this office as of 30 June 2010 and thus will not complete his first six-year term which would have expired on 12 February, 2011.

As Vice-Governor, Miroslav Singer has been overseeing the activities of the departments responsible for financial market regulation and analyses, licensing and enforcement and financial market supervision since early 2007.
