The Czech National Bank (CNB) is issuing a CZK 100 commemorative silver coin featuring the Customs Administration of the Czech Republic. The latest coin in the Institutions of the Czech Republic cycle goes on sale on 20 August 2025.

The Institutions of the Czech Republic cycle highlights the work of selected authorities and organisations that play an essential role in the proper functioning of the state. “The Customs Administration protects the state’s economic, security and societal interests. With this commemorative coin, we wish to recognise the work of customs officers and highlight their importance for the functioning of the state and everyday life,” said CNB Bank Board member Karina Kubelková.

The new coin’s design uses motifs from the everyday work of the Customs Administration. The obverse side of the coin depicts a composition of heraldic animals from the large national coat-of-arms of the Czech Republic in a frame symbolising the circulation of goods. It is complemented by a fan of banknotes, referencing the collection of customs duties, taxes and fees. The reverse side depicts a truck equipped with a large-capacity mobile X-ray scanner, inside which is the logo of the Customs Administration. The design of the coin was chosen in an art competition. At the recommendation of an expert committee, the CNB Bank Board chose the design by medal maker Veronika Durová for its imaginative depiction of the theme.

The CNB has commissioned the minting of 11,200 coins with a denomination of CZK 100, made from an alloy containing 925 parts silver and 75 parts copper. The coin has a diameter of 29 mm, a weight of 9 g and a thickness of 1.85 mm. It is issued exclusively as a proof-quality coin with a polished field and a matt relief.

The coin’s denomination of CZK 100 does not equal the sale price, which is higher and reflects, among other things, the current price of silver, production costs and VAT. The coins were minted by Česká mincovna, a. s., in Jablonec nad Nisou and are available for purchase from selected contractual partners (in Czech only). The CNB does not sell numismatic material directly to the public.

The commemorative coin featuring the Customs Administration is the fourth in the Institutions of the Czech Republic cycle. Last year, the CNB issued silver coins featuring the Security Information Service and the Prosecutor General’s Office. In March this year, a coin was released commemorating the work of the Supreme Court.

Customs Administration of the Czech Republic

The Customs Administration of the Czech Republic is an armed security corps and administrative authority subordinate to the Ministry of Finance. It has the status of a police authority and is authorised to conduct criminal proceedings. Its main task is to protect the fiscal interests of the Czech Republic and the internal market of the EU, primarily through the inspection of goods entering its territory. The Customs Administration is responsible for collecting customs duties, excise duties and, to some extent, VAT, as well as overseeing international trade. It also protects public health and the environment from illegal and hazardous goods. Since 2017, it has also supervised the area of gambling and performs other control activities, such as in the fields of toll collection, weapons and intellectual property rights protection.
