On 23 September 2025, the Czech National Bank is putting into circulation a gold CZK 10,000 coin to mark the 1100th anniversary of the start of the reign of Wenceslas I, Duke of Bohemia. The coin is minted from 999.9 purity gold and is issued in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking. Proof-quality coins have a highly polished field, a matt relief and a plain edge. Normal quality coins have milled edges. The coin is 34 mm in diameter, weighs 31.107 g and is 2.5 mm thick. Deviations in diameter of 0.1 mm and thickness of 0.15 mm are allowed. Upward deviations in weight of 0.062 g and in gold content of 0.01% are allowed.
The upper left part of the obverse side of the coin features the Rotunda of St Vitus in Prague. Below it is the Přemyslid emblem – a flaming eagle on a shield. The text “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” and the denomination and abbreviated monetary unit “10,000 Kč”, separated by a dot, are written along the right edge of the coin. The right-hand part of the coin depicts the heraldic animals from the large national coat-of-arms – the Czech lion at the top, the Moravian eagle in the middle and the Silesian eagle at the bottom. The mark of the Czech Mint, in the form of the letters “Č” and “M”, is to the right of the Moravian eagle. The left-hand part of the reverse side of the coin features the figure of Wenceslas I, Duke of Bohemia, from a fresco in the Rotunda of St Catherine in Znojmo. He is depicted holding a banner and shield, and wearing a helmet. The text “2025” is located above the banner, while the text “925” is situated below the figure of Wenceslas. The right-hand part of the coin shows two depictions of Wenceslas from the Velislaus Bible. The upper part features Wenceslas kneeling as he hands a sword to Boleslav. The lower part depicts the scene of Wenceslas’s murder by Boleslav’s armed retainers. The text “KNÍŽE VÁCLAV” is located along the left edge of the coin. The initials of the designer of the coin Zbyněk Fojtů – made up of the letters “F” and “Z” – are to the right of the text “KNÍŽE VÁCLAV”.
Each coin comes with a red catalogue card containing a description and the relief of the coin.
The Czech National Bank sells its commemorative coins through contractual partners licensed to trade in numismatic material (in Czech only).
