On 11 June 2025 the Czech National Bank is putting into circulation a CZK 500 commemorative silver coin with an optical see-through element “Aero L-39 jet”. The coin is minted from an alloy containing 925 parts silver and 75 parts copper and is issued in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking. Normal quality coins have milled edges. Proof-quality coins have a highly polished field, a matt relief and a plain edge with the inscription “ČNB * CVIČNÝ LETOUN * L-39 *”. The coins have a weight of 25 g, a diameter of 40 mm and a thickness of 2.7 mm. The maximum issuance limit for the coin is 30,000 pieces.
Coin description
The upper part of the obverse side of the coin features the front view of the Aero L-39 jet. The lower part of the coin, separated with a dividing line, features a section of the instrument panel with three flight instruments. The centre flight instrument with an artificial horizon is depicted as a motif on a round plastic plate, embedded through the full thickness of the coin. The text “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” is inscribed along the upper edge of the coin. The denomination and abbreviated monetary unit “500 Kč” are written around the lower edge of the coin. The mark of the Czech Mint, in the form of the letters “Č” and “M”, is located near the left-hand edge of the coin. The reverse side of the coin features two Aero L-39 jets in flight. Below them in the lower part of the coin is a mirror-reversed depiction of the flight instrument with an artificial horizon. The lower edge of the coin contains the texts “AERO”, “L”, “39” and “2025”. The texts are separated from each other and enclosed with dots. The initials of the designer of the coin Zbyněk Fojtů, made up of the letters “F” and “Z”, are located at the left-hand edge of the coin.
