Commentary on MFI interest rates

The CNB comments on the figures for August 2026

Interest rates on new business in August were characterised by several contrasting month-on-month movements. For household deposits, changes were concentrated mainly in deposits with agreed maturity, while for non-financial corporations the rate on overnight deposits changed more markedly. On the lending side, the most significant change for households was recorded in loans for house purchase, while for non-financial corporations it was recorded mainly in loans of over CZK 7.5 million.

For household deposits, the rate on overnight deposits increased to 1.54%, while the rate on deposits with agreed maturity rose to 3.38%. For non-financial corporations, the rate on overnight deposits increased to 1.21%, while the rate on deposits with agreed maturity remained unchanged at 3.23%.

For new loans to households, the overall rate on consumer credit, loans for house purchase and other loans increased to 5.68%. The rate on consumer credit remained unchanged at 7.99%, while the rate on loans for house purchase rose to 4.94%. The rate on new loans to non-financial corporations (excluding overdrafts, revolving loans and credit cards) increased to 5.60%, while the rate on loans of over CZK 30 million reached 5.55%.

Interest rates on outstanding amounts changed mostly by only a few basis points in August. The overall rate on outstanding loans to households increased slightly to 4.76%, while that on outstanding loans to non-financial corporations rose to 5.39%. Interest rates on outstanding deposits also recorded only limited month-on-month changes.
