The CNB issues a gold coin “National Heritage Site – Hand-Paper Mill at Velké Losiny” from the “Industrial Heritage Sites” cycle
On 10 May 2006, the Czech National Bank is issuing into circulation the first gold commemorative coin from its Industrial Heritage Sites cycle, with a face value of CZK 2,500. The coin bears the motif “National Heritage Site – Hand-Paper Mill at Velké Losiny”. The centre of the obverse side of the coin depicts a composition of heraldic animals – the Czech lion in period depiction in the middle, with the Moravian eagle on the right and the Silesian eagle on the left in contemporary depiction, located in square shields. The name of the state is written on two lines below the heraldic animals. On the ring is the name of the cycle and near the bottom edge is the denomination and monetary unit of the coin. The centre of the reverse side of the coin features a period engraving of a scene from the Renaissance hand-paper mill. The left-hand upper edge features the building and the right-hand lower edge the Žerotín lion watermark used on the hand-made paper from this mill. All the illustrations protrude from the coin’s centre to the ring, separated by an astragal. The ring contains the inscription “PAPÍRNA VE VELKÝCH LOSINÁCH” (Hand-Paper Mill at Velké Losiny). The year of mintage “2006” and the initials of the designer Luboš Charvát are located at the lower edge of the coin.
The coin was minted by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou from 999.9 purity gold in two quality versions – normal and proof (high polish and matt relief). The two versions differ also in their edges – the normal quality coins have milled edges and the proof-quality coins have plain edges. The coin has a diameter of 22 mm, a weight of 7.78 g and a thickness of 1.45 mm. Each coin comes with a red postcard-sized catalogue card giving a description of the coin and its relief.
To mark the issuance of this gold coin, a meeting will be held on 10 May this year at the Hand-Paper Mill at Velké Losiny, attended by the CNB Governor and Bank Board members along with prominent personalities in the social life of the region. The CNB will give an economic presentation at the mill (large lecture hall) at 10 a.m. The official unveiling of the gold coin will take place in the gallery at 11.25 a.m..
Journalists interested in attending the official meeting at Velké Losiny should contact Mr Pavel Palivec at the CNB (mobile: 736524415).
