Exchange of anniversary banknotes continues; last chance to obtain the unique presentation sleeve

The anniversary CZK 5,000 banknotes with the additional print are proving very popular with the public. Thousands of people have come to obtain them since the exchange began. The Czech National Bank will continue the exchange on Tuesday 29 September and on subsequent working days. They will be available at its cash offices in Prague, Brno, Ostrava and Hradec Králové from 7.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and from 12.30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The exchange of banknotes will continue while stocks last. According to current estimates, supplies should last until around 9 October. A total of 200,000 anniversary banknotes are available. They can be obtained only in exchange for Czech banknotes of the corresponding value.

The CNB is also seeing strong public demand for the unique presentation sleeve designed to hold the anniversary banknote. Stocks of the sleeves are gradually running low and are expected to be completely sold out by the end of September. In addition to protecting the banknote, the sleeve serves an informational purpose. It contains a detailed description of the optical effects used in the banknote’s holographic additional print, for example features that are visible to the naked eye and become apparent only when using special equipment. A total of 30,000 sleeves have been produced. The price of one sleeve is CZK 100 including VAT.

The central bank issued the 2023 version CZK 5,000 anniversary banknote with a special holographic additional print and the unique presentation sleeve on 22 September 2026. The issue commemorates the 100th anniversary of the commencement of operations of the National Bank of Czechoslovakia, the first independent central bank of Czechoslovakia. No additional print run of either the banknotes or the presentation sleeves is planned.
