On 12 February 2025 the Czech National Bank is issuing a CZK 200 commemorative silver coin to mark the 200th anniversary of the establishment of Czech savings bank Böhmische Sparkasse. The coin is minted from an alloy containing 925 parts silver and 75 parts copper and is issued in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking. Proof-quality coins have a highly polished field, a matt relief and a plain edge with the inscription “ČESKÁ NÁRODNÍ BANKA * Ag 0.925 * 13 g *”. Normal quality coins have milled edges. The coin is 31 mm in diameter, weighs 13 g and is 2.2 mm thick. As with any other coins, deviations in diameter of 0.1 mm and thickness of 0.15 mm are allowed. Upward deviations in weight of 0.26 g and silver content of 1% are permitted.
Coin description
The obverse side of the coin features a collage consisting of a segment of the obverse side of a 50–gulden banknote of the Privileged Austrian National Bank, dated 23 June 1825, a segment of a page of Böhmische Sparkasse’s 1826 annual report and a figure of Saint Wenceslas on an emblem, with the text “ČESKÁ SPOŘITELNA V PRAZE” written around its edge. The text “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” is written at the upper edge of the coin. The denomination and abbreviated monetary unit “200 Kč” are situated near the lower left edge of the coin. The mark of the Czech Mint, in the form of the letters “Č” and “M”, is to the right of the figure of Saint Wenceslas. The reverse side of the coin features a collage consisting of a segment of the first building of the Czech savings bank on Národní Street in Prague, a bee as the symbol of the savings bank movement and graphic fragments from Böhmische Sparkasse deposit books. The text “ČESKÁ SPOŘITELNA” is written at the upper edge of the coin. The text “BÖHMISCHE SPARKASSE” is to the right of the centre of the coin. The text “1825 - 2025” is situated to the right of the segment of the building. The initials of the designer of the coin Zbyněk Fojtů – made up of the letters “F” and “Z” – are to the right of the text “ČESKÁ”.
