Turnovers on the Money Market: 13–17 October 2003

The Czech National Bank surveys the average daily turnovers on the money market twice a year - in April and in October.

The results of the most recent survey conducted in the week of 13-17 October 2003 showed a slight increase in the total turnover on the money market. It rose by 8.4% from the April's 2003 three-year low of CZK 44.9 billion to the recent value of CZK 48.6 billion.

The total volume of repos rose by 34.2%, from CZK 149 million to CZK 200 million, relative to April 2003, however, the total volume of repos is still negligible. In addition, the survey shows that banks do not use repos with over-three-month maturities and that they do not do repos with non-residents.

Deposits with over-three-month maturity displayed a sharp decline (falling from CZK 1.3 billion to CZK 0.8 billion). Conversely, the volume of deposits with maturities shorter than three months, that accounts for 98% of the total turnover on the money market increased by 9.9% from CZK 43.5 billion to CZK 47.8 billion.
