Tour of the CNB exhibition open to all on the web

As from today, the Czech National Bank exhibition “People and Money” is open to all on the web. A virtual tour of one of the strongrooms at the CNB headquarters in Prague allows those interested to explore the history of the Czech currency and the central bank.

The “People and Money" exhibition has long enjoyed strong interest from visitors and tours are booked up months in advance. More than 130,000 people have visited it since it opened in a former strongroom at the CNB’s headquarters in 2002. Given the limited capacity of the tours at the CNB building, the exhibition has been made accessible via the internet.

The web tour offers a journey with 12 stops devoted to the history of money and monetary policy in the Czech lands – from the first Czech money, through the creation of the Czechoslovak currency in 1919, to the koruna used today. Internet visitors can zoom in on the show-cases at these stops to have a detailed look.

The virtual tour of “People and Money” reflects the CNB’s interest in enhancing the financial literacy of the Czech public, which, according the first-ever comprehensive financial literacy measurement conducted in 2010, is low. The CNB has been promoting financial education for many years, as educated consumers manage their money responsibly and can more easily avoid loss-making transactions in the financial market.
