The Lower House of the Czech Parliament has passed for second reading the draft harmonising amendment to the Act on the CNB
Milan Tománek, CNB spokesman: "The Lower House of the Czech Parliament has passed for second reading the draft harmonising amendment to the Act on the CNB. In this connection, there is much political debate about the current position of the CNB in the economy, and the possibility of incorporating it into the structure of subordination and superiority of the authorities and institutions of the Czech Republic. This debate is also going on in the media in relation to the proposed amendment to the Czech Constitution. Under this amendment, CNB Board members would in future be nominated by the President, the Lower House and the Senate in a 3:3:3 ratio On the CNB website you will find a survey of the legislation governing the positions of central banks around the world and articles on the ongoing debate, as well as a link to the draft amendment to the Act on the CNB itself (Czech version only)."
