Financial Regulation and International Cooperation Department to be responsible for FinTech regulation at CNB

Regulation of financial technology at the Czech National Bank will fall under the Financial Market Regulation and International Cooperation Department as from 1 October 2018. At the same time, the unit will shorten its name to the Financial Regulation and International Cooperation Department and undergo three personnel changes.

The Cash and Payment Systems Department will cease to deal with payment systems regulation and oversight on 1 October. In connection with this, a new Payments Regulation and Financial Innovations Division will be established in the Financial Regulation and International Cooperation Department. The new division will be headed by Michal Vodrážka, the current director of the Cash Circulation Supervision and Payment Systems Oversight Division of the Cash and Payment Systems Department. In addition to payment systems regulation and oversight, the division will be responsible for regulatory issues in the field of financial innovation.

Martin Vojta, the current director of the EU and International Organisations Division of the Financial Market Regulation and International Cooperation Department, will become Deputy Executive Director of the Financial Regulation and International Cooperation Department on 1 October 2018. His position will be taken over by Jan Král, who previously worked as Director of the European Policies Coordination Department at the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic.

Martin Vojta graduated from the Faculty of Law at Charles University and the Faculty of International Relations at the University of Economics in Prague. In 2001–2014, he worked at the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic as the head of the EU economic policies unit. In July 2014, he became the head of the division for property settlement and national farms in liquidation at the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic. In October 2014, he joined the CNB as a senior expert for EU relations. In July 2018, he became the director of the EU and International Organisations Division.

Michal Vodrážka graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň, the Korea Development Institute School of Public Policy and Management in Seoul and the School of Global Policy and Strategy in San Diego, USA. He joined the CNB in December 2012 as the head of the legal and payment systems supervision unit of the Cash and Payment Systems Department. In January 2016, he became the director of the Cash Circulation Supervision and Payment Systems Oversight Division of the Cash and Payment Systems Department.

Jan Král graduated from the Institute of International Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University in Prague. In 2007–2008, he worked as an officer for international relations and the European Union at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. In October 2007, he joined the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic, where he worked as the head of the COREPER I unit in 2008–2011. In May 2011, he was appointed Director of the European Policies Coordination Department.
