CNB statistical data to be released in the euro

In connection with the acceleration of the Czech Republic's integration into the European Union, the CNB Board today decided that as from 1 February 2000 the CNB will publish the data on the Czech Republic's external economic relations not only in Czech korunas (CZK) but also in euros (EUR). The Board has thus decided to accelerate the transfer of the statistics into EUR compared with "The Adjustment Programme of the Statistical Services of the Czech Republic", which presupposes the presentation of all data in the single currency of the EU in 2002 at the latest.

A fortnight later, i.e. as of 15 February 2000, the CNB website (www.cnb.cz) will provide time series converted into EUR or, in the case of retrospective reconstruction of the data, into ECU. Data expressed in US dollars (USD) will continue to be available on the Internet.

In this way, the CNB is adjusting already to the requirements imposed by EUROSTAT and the European Central Bank (ECB) on EU countries during the transition period of simultaneous use of national currencies and the euro. After 2002, the eurozone countries will use exclusively EUR in their statistics. The flow of statistical information from the ECB to national central banks has been in EUR since January 1999.

Today's CNB Board meeting has ended. The Board did not adopt any monetary policy measures.
