CNB economic data now available in a clearer, more interactive form and in one place
From Thursday 8 October, the Czech National Bank’s statistics are available through a redesigned and modernised Statistics section of the CNB website and a new version of the ARAD database, providing easier access to the CNB’s economic and financial data. The Statistics section of the website now includes interactive data elements and charts that are dynamically linked to ARAD data, offering users everything from a quick overview and interactive charts to detailed work with time series and automated data access.
The new Statistics section of the CNB website offers key indicators directly in interactive charts dynamically linked to the ARAD database. Users can therefore monitor current developments across the various areas of CNB statistics, obtain basic context and, where necessary, move on to more detailed data, all in one place.
“We did not want merely to change the appearance of the statistics pages and the database. Our aim was to make it significantly easier for users to get from a question to the data they need. Users looking for a basic overview can now obtain it directly on the CNB website in the form of a chart and a brief commentary. Those who need to work with detailed time series can continue to ARAD, while advanced users can access the data automatically via the API,” said Simona Malovaná, Executive Director of the Research and Statistics Department at the Czech National Bank.
The Statistics section of the CNB website is divided into four main areas: monetary and financial statistics, payment statistics, macroeconomic statistics and supervisory statistics. For key topics, it offers interactive charts, current data and brief CNB commentaries on developments in those areas. The part of the website dedicated to methodological and technical support for CNB statistical and supervisory reporting has also been redesigned. The consistent structure makes it easier to navigate across the different areas of statistics.
“Reliable data are valuable not least because they are immediately and easily accessible. The role of a modern central bank is not merely to produce and maintain statistics, but also to actively make them available to the public. The more accessible our data are, the more they will be used by market participants and the public alike. In my view, this is a key prerequisite for sound economic decision-making and rational debate,” said CNB Bank Board member Jakub Seidler.
The ARAD database, designed for more detailed work with economic and financial data, has also undergone a major transformation. The new interface places greater emphasis on easy navigation across the extensive range of time series. Users can search for data, browse by area, filter data and create customised data selections.
The new ARAD offers enhanced search functionality, a clearer organisation of data and easier use of individual indicators and time series. For advanced users, it also provides automated data access via the ARAD REST API. The API Builder tool allows users to construct the required API calls directly in the user interface.
ARAD provides access to extensive statistical and supervisory data on the Czech economy and financial sector, including data published with the consent of the Czech Statistical Office. The database also contains data published in the Monetary Policy Reports, including forecasts for the Czech economy.
