New Director in the CNB Monetary Department

Karel Musil becomes Director of the Macroeconomic Forecasting Division of the Monetary Department at the Czech National Bank on 1 December 2017.

Karel Musil graduated from the Centre for Economic Research and Graduate Education (CERGE) at Charles University, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University and the Brno International Business School. He has a PhD in economic policy from Masaryk University in Brno.

Dr Musil joined the CNB as a macroeconomic modelling and forecasting expert in 2007. Until 2009 he also lectured on the use of mathematical methods and models in economics at Masaryk University in Brno. In 2009–2015 he worked at OGResearch, where he headed a team focusing on the development and application of macroeconomic models. As a representative of the International Monetary Fund, he was then involved in the transition from a fixed exchange rate to inflation targeting in Kazakhstan. Since 2015 he has worked in the CNB’s Macroeconomic Forecasting Division, where he became the head of the forecasting team this year. He has published papers on macroeconomic modelling and forecasting. In this field, he is also involved in foreign technical assistance in many countries of the world.
