David Rozumek, Executive Director of the CNB Financial Market Supervision Department, elected to the EBA Management Board
David Rozumek, Executive Director of the CNB Financial Market Supervision Department, was elected a member of the Management Board of the European Banking Authority (EBA) at the current meeting of the Board of Supervisors. His appointment takes effect on 1 March 2016 and his mandate will last for two and a half years.
“I am sure David will do an excellent job representing us and many other ‘new’ EU economies in one of the top bodies of European supervision, as he once did in the past. His election shows that we can assert ourselves at the EU level if we work hard at it,” said CNB Governor Miroslav Singer.
The focus of Mr Rozumek’s activities will remain at the CNB. His priority in his new position at the EBA will be to intensify communication and cooperation between members of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), which covers most EU Member States and comprises the ECB and other supervisory authorities.
“We need to work to strike a balance between the institutions operating in the EU. The ECB’s place at the table of supervisory authorities should be commensurate with its importance – first among equals. Its role in supervisory discussions should be neither larger nor smaller than that. The EBA should play the leading role in coordinating all 28 EU members in both regulation and supervision,” said David Rozumek.
David Rozumek (38) was first elected a member of the EBA Management Board in 2011 and held this post until 2013. In 2011–2014 he chaired an EBA committee preparing implementing regulations as part of a reform of banking regulation reflecting the sources of the financial crisis (SCRePol). Since 2012 he has been a member of the EBA mediation panel. Since the establishment of the European Supervisory Authorities in 2011 he has been a member of the Board of Supervisors of the EBA and the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA). In 2008–2010 he was a member of the Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS). In 2003–2007 he was a member of expert groups of the Committee of European Securities Regulators (CESR).
David Rozumek has worked in financial market supervision since 1999. He joined the CNB in April 2006. Initially he held the post of Director of the Investment Services Provision Division, and on 1 January 2008 he was appointed Deputy Executive Director of the Financial Market Supervision Department. He then won an open selection procedure and was appointed Executive Director of the Financial Market Supervision Department on 10 October 2008.
