Commentary on the main indicators
The total assets of the Czech banking sector stood at CZK 12,216 billion at the end of August 2026, up by CZK 102 billion month on month. In year-on-year terms, they increased by CZK 871 billion. Loans to residents are the predominant asset item. Their volume reached CZK 8,274 billion. Deposits of residents, which are the most important item among banking sector liabilities, totalled CZK 8,082 billion.

The volume of loans to resident households amounted to CZK 2,757 billion in August, increasing by 0.7% (CZK 20 billion) month on month. As regards the breakdown of these loans by purpose, the largest share consists of loans for house purchase, which account for 77% of the total volume of loans to households. Their volume reached CZK 2,112 billion in August, up by 0.7% (CZK 14 billion) month on month. However, consumer credit recorded stronger growth. Its volume amounted to CZK 437 billion, up by 1.0% (CZK 4 billion) month on month. The volume of non-performing loans increased slightly month on month, by CZK 0.4 billion, to CZK 33.6 billion. However, their share in the total volume of loans remained unchanged at 1.2%.

The volume of loans to resident non-financial corporations amounted to CZK 1,650 billion in August, up by 1.3% (CZK 22 billion) month on month. In terms of original maturity, long-term loans remain dominant, accounting for 54% of the total volume. Their volume rose by CZK 4 billion month on month in August, reaching CZK 888 billion. An increase was recorded by short-term loans, whose volume also increased by CZK 4 billion to CZK 353 billion. The fastest growth was recorded by medium-term loans, which rose by CZK 14 billion to CZK 409 billion. The volume of non-performing loans decreased slightly month on month, by CZK 0.8 billion to CZK 33.1 billion. Their share in total loans also decreased slightly, down by 0.1 percentage point to 2.0%.
