First Annual Czech National Bank Workshop

“Monetary and financial stability policies in a changing economic landscape”

Prague, June 13–14, 2024

CALL FOR PAPERS

The Czech National Bank will host the “First Annual Czech National Bank Workshop” in Prague on June 13–14, 2024. We aim to provide an annual forum for economists, both domestic and foreign-based, to connect and discuss current issues within our Research Agenda. This covers a wide range of topics, including many new as well as long-standing issues relevant to small open economies but also to large advanced countries. Such engagement enhances the quality of our policy decisions and advice, through the creation of networks that foster collaboration and facilitate challenge. Therefore, the organizers of the conference invite submissions of research papers that address, inter alia, the following topics:

  • Macroprudential policy conduct in a high interest rates environment
  • Credit risk/sovereign risk in times of high inflation and its interaction with monetary policy
  • Inflation, monetary policy, and indebtedness of public and private sectors
  • Monetary and macroprudential policy spillovers to bank and non-bank financial sectors
  • The role of macroprudential policy for non-banks and in the interactions between banks and non-banks
  • Lessons for macroprudential policy from the pandemic, for example, on the topics of capital buffer usability or the macroprudential policy space
  • Deglobalization, geopolitical risks, and their implications for financial stability, international trade, and capital flows; challenges for a small open economy
  • High energy prices and their impacts on households, firms, and inflation
  • Challenges for monetary policy in a high inflation environment; the role of inflation expectations; understanding the Phillips curve
  • Deciphering macroeconomic dynamics in turbulent times; modelling and forecasting during Covid-19 and the post-Covid-19 period
  • Household finance and the transmission of monetary policy

The conference will feature plenary sessions with keynote speeches by David Aikman (King’s Business School) and Phurichai Rungcharoenkitkul (Bank for International Settlements).
