The CNB issues a CZK 1,000 anniversary banknote with an additional print of a stamp

Exactly thirty years after the start of the successful Czech-Slovak currency separation, the CNB will issue a new CZK 1,000 banknote with an additional print in the form of a banknote stamp and an anniversary logo. The note will be available from 8 February 2023 onwards in exchange for other Czech coins or banknotes worth CZK 1,000 only at the cash desks of all CNB offices while stocks last.

The anniversary banknote is a 2008 version CZK 1,000 banknote with an additional print on the face side of the coupon. As the banknote refers to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Czech and Slovak koruna – which was associated, among other things, with the stamping of banknotes – the additional print features the motif of the 1993 CZK 1,000 banknote stamp and an anniversary logo by graphic designer Jan Solpera commemorating 30 years of the CNB. The additional print does not affect the value or validity of the banknote, which can thus be used to pay for goods and services.

The Czech National Bank will put into circulation a total of 200,000 pieces of the CZK 1,000 anniversary banknote. It will be possible to obtain the note from 8 February 2023 onwards in exchange for other Czech coins or banknotes worth CZK 1,000 while stocks last. Those interested in exchanging their banknotes must do so in person at the CNB’s offices in Prague, České Budějovice, Plzeň, Ústí nad Labem, Hradec Králové, Brno and Ostrava during the extended cash office opening hours from 7.30 am to 4 pm. The exchange limit is set at five anniversary banknotes per person. In order to ensure swift service at the cash desks, the Czech National Bank recommends that people have banknotes and coins ready in the amount corresponding to the requested number of anniversary banknotes. The banknotes cannot be pre-ordered or shipped.

The CZK 1,000 anniversary banknote is the second Czech banknote with a special additional print. The first was a CZK 100 banknote issued in 2019 to mark the 100th anniversary of the currency separation from Austria-Hungary.
