The Czech National Bank “People and Money” exhibition is situated in a former strongroom first of Živnostenská banka, later of the State Bank of Czechoslovakia and currently of the Czech National Bank. It offers visitors an insight into the Czech and Czechoslovak history of currency in the European context.
Visitors get a comprehensive overview of the history of money and the financial system through numerous exhibits relating to the evolution of media of exchange and money from its origin to the present. They can learn about banknote protection, examine banknote security features and check the authenticity of banknotes and other valuables using testing equipment.
The newest exhibit on display is a unique heavyweight CZK 100 million gold coin. This coin, which is the largest gold coin in Europe and the second-largest in the world, was issued by the Czech National Bank in 2019 to mark the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Czechoslovak currency.
Guided tours of the exhibition are accompanied by thematic films.
