Data Sources

Time series in the ARAD system present statistical data and basic indicators of the financial market under the charges of the Czech National Bank, and statistical data taken from the CZSO and other institutions.

A. Statistical data

MONETARY AND FINANCIAL STATISTICS are aggregated macroeconomic statistics of the financial sector, collected for the Czech Republic on an unconsolidated basis. These statistics are based exclusively on the host country principle, i.e. the respondents are residents of the Czech Republic. CNB statements are the data source for these statistics. They include:

BALANCE OF PAYMENTS STATISTICS provide information on the Czech Republic’s external economic relations. They are based on statistics provided by banks and non-bank entities and institutions.

FINANCIAL MARKET STATISTICS provide fundamental information on the money, capital and foreign exchange markets in the Czech Republic. They are based on statistics from these markets and on CNB data.

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTS STATISTICS provide a comprehensive and methodologically unified picture of financial relationships in the economy with regard to institutional sectors and financial instruments. They inform of major channels through which funds are obtained and invested. Financial accounts are compiled on the unconsolidated principle using primary macroeconomic statistics produced by the CNB and the CZSO and also using grossing-up and estimates.

  • The balance sheet shows the level (the stocks) of financial assets and liabilities on a given date, broken down by individual institutional sectors and instruments. Changes in the value of financial assets and liabilities are determined by developments on three flow accounts: the financial account, the revaluation account and other changes in assets account

GOVERNMENT FINANCIAL STATISTICS inform of the economic activities of the general government with respect to government revenue, expenditure and debt, including government transactions in state financial assets and liabilities. Primary responsibility for the production of data lies with the Czech Statistical Office in co-operation with the Ministry of Finance and the Czech National Bank. The selected indicators of the government finance statistics, which are also the basis for the assessment of developments of the Maastricht criteria with respect to the government deficit and debt, are broken down for

  • Government sector total (S.13)
  • Central government institutions (S.1311)
  • Local government institutions (S.1313)
  • Social security funds (S.1314)

In the government finance statistics the following institutional units are classified by the Czech Statistical Office as a part of the central government sector (S.1311): the Czech Export Bank, the Czech-Moravian Guarantee and Development Bank, and the Export Guarantee and Insurance Corporation (EGAP). In other CNB´s statistics, i.e. in the monetary and financial statistics, balance of payments statistics and financial quarterly accounts statistics, all these institutions are classified as a part of the financial sector (monetary and financial institutions).

GENERAL ECONOMIC STATISTICS provide a picture of developments in the real economy on the basis of data collected by the Czech National Bank, the Czech Statistical Office and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The Czech National Bank has original competence in statistical surveys of non-financial corporations, conducted in co-operation with the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic. They aim to survey the views of business managers regarding the expected evolution of the main macroeconomic and corporate indicators at the horizon of 3–12 months, including the factors affecting managerial decisions, corporate development or the quality of the business environment. The surveys focus on the following main areas:

  • Prices (consumer prices, producers’ input and output prices)
  • Macroeconomic indicators (wages, employment, investment, inventories)
  • Corporate indicators (capacity utilisation, availability of credit, developments in orders, payment morality of customers)
  • Hedging of exports against exchange rate risks
  • Payments to suppliers (residents) and receipts from customers (residents), total and broken down by currency

The General Economic Statistics section of the ARAD database also includes data taken from the Czech Statistical Office and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

This concerns data which are important for the CNB’s internal analytical purposes (prices, GDP, wages, employment, unemployment, etc.), data serving as underlying data to compile statistics submitted to the ECB (structural housing indicators, etc.) or data which are no longer collected within the European Statistical System but continue to be surveyed at the national level and submitted to the ECB (new industrial orders).
