The exhibition People & Money illustrates the history of money evolution from flint to digital money and chips.

The exhibition provides a comprehensive picture of both monetary and financial development in the Czechlands, including the story of the Czech National Bank since its foundation.

Visitors are invited to take advantage of the following facilities: Audio-visual viewings presented in a video-room at the entrance to the exhibition area, 65 show-cases displaying unique exhibits and payment instruments, a special show-case containing a ton of red gold, represented in various shapes, forgeries and examples of money protection techniques, interactive touch-screens, vast quantities of information stored in multimedia computers.

Digital audio guides with English or German commentary can be borrowed.

    - presentation on the handling, storage, registration, calculation, inspection and destruction of damaged banknotes - duration: approx. 9 minutes
  • "The 5,000-crown note"
    - presentation on the preparation and production of the 5000-crown banknote (with commentary by the designer Oldřich Kulhánek, the engraver Miloš Ondráček and other personalities) - duration: approx. 19 minutes
  • "The twenty-crown note"
    - presentation on the preparation and production of the present twenty-crown banknote - duration: 11 minutes
  • "The Czech National Bank and the European Union"
    - presentation on the work of the Czech National Bank and the Czech Republic associated with entry into the EU - duration: approx. 7 minutes

  • "Karel Engliš"
    - presentation on the life and work of the Czech economist, former Governor of the National Bank of Czechoslovakia and Minister of Finance of the Czechoslovak Republic, with an accompanying commentary by Prof. František Vencovský - duration: approx. 14 minutes

Visitors to the exhibition can view the following multimedia presentations:

  • "The State Printing Office"
    - on the past and present production of the manufacurer of Czech banknotes and other printed material (Czech, English and German versions)
  • "Paper Money in Portugal"
    - interactive presentation on the history of Portuguese banknotes - prepared by the Banco de Portugal (English and Portuguese versions)
