Zero coupon bond
The issuance of a zero coupon bond obliges the issuer to repay the face value at a specified time in the future. It is sold at a price lower than the face value on the primary and secondary markets. The difference between the face value and the sale price is called the discount. A zero coupon bond has no coupon payments between the issue date and the date of maturity of the face value.
