Consumer protection and financial literacy

Consumer protection

Act No. 36/2008 Coll., amending certain acts in the consumer protection area, took effect on 12 February 2008. This act amended, among others, Act No. 6/1993 Coll., on the Czech National Bank (the CNB Act), Act No. 634/1992 Coll., on Consumer Protection (the Consumer Protection Act) and gave the Czech National Bank (CNB) new powers in the area of consumer protection. Under these powers the CNB accepts suggestions, complaints and notifications.

The CNB promotes financial literacy

In connection with its new powers, the CNB has launched steps towards fulfilling its mission in this area. In 2008, the CNB contributed to the promotion of financial literacy by providing the textbook “Financial and Economic Literacy” by Michal Skořepa and Eva Skořepová free of charge to schools, which have used it in the teaching of economics-related parts of civics and in the teaching of financial and economic literacy as a separate subject. The CNB is currently involved in organising seminars for teachers.
