Minister of Finance to attend Bank Board meeting

Minister of Finance Zbyněk Stanjura will attend the CNB Bank Board meeting on 4 August 2022 along with the Bank Board’s seven members. Mr Stanjura’s attendance constitutes a standard visit by a Minister of Finance under the Act on the CNB, according to which the Minister of Finance or another nominated member of the Government may attend the meetings of the Bank Board in an advisory capacity.

The Bank Board will today discuss the Monetary Policy Report, which contains the CNB’s updated macroeconomic forecast. The meeting will conclude with a monetary policy decision. In accordance with the Act, Mr Stanjura will not vote on interest rates. As usual, the Bank Board’s decision will be published on the CNB website www.cnb.cz at 2.30 p.m. The press conference given by Governor Aleš Michl will start at 3.45 p.m. and will be streamed live on the CNB website.

Pursuant to the Act on the CNB (pdf, 342 kB), the Minister of Finance or another nominated member of the Government may attend meetings of the Bank Board in an advisory capacity, but may not vote. Under the same act, the Governor or a Deputy Governor nominated by him may analogously attend meetings of the Government in an advisory capacity without a vote.

Ministers of Finance have exercised the option to attend Bank Board meetings several times in the past. The last Minister of Finance to do so was Alena Schillerová in August 2021.
