Line-up of CNB Bank Board changes on 1 July 2022

The line-up of the Bank Board governing the Czech National Bank changes on 1 July 2022, with Aleš Michl taking over as Governor. The President of the Czech Republic has also appointed Eva Zamrazilová as Deputy Governor and Karina Kubelková and Jan Frait as Bank Board members for a term of six years. Oldřich Dědek, Tomáš Holub and Deputy Governor Marek Mora remain members of the Bank Board.

Aleš Michl becomes the central bank’s highest representative with effect from 1 July 2022. He is the fifth Governor of the CNB in its modern history. ”With full responsibility, I pledge to pursue the Czech National Bank’s two primary objectives – price stability and financial stability. The priority will be to reduce inflation,” said Aleš Michl in a statement on taking up his duties.

President Zeman appointed Eva Zamrazilová as the CNB’s first-ever female Deputy Governor with effect from 1 July 2022. Marek Mora remains in the post of Deputy Governor.

Karina Kubelková and Jan Frait become new members of the seven-member Bank Board with effect from 1 July 2022. Oldřich Dědek and Tomáš Holub remain members of the Bank Board.

The Bank Board is the supreme governing body of the CNB. The Governor, or a Deputy Governor nominated by him, chairs the meetings of the Bank Board. The Bank Board acts collectively, by a simple majority of the votes cast. In the event of a tie, the chairperson has the casting vote.

The Bank Board decides upon the fundamental monetary and macroprudential policy measures of the Czech National Bank and measures in the area of financial market supervision. The members of the Bank Board also oversee the activities performed by the CNB’s organisational units according to a defined scheme. The responsibilities of the Bank Board members will be defined at the first meeting of the Bank Board in its new line-up.

All Bank Board members, both Deputy Governors and the Governor of the CNB are appointed by the President of the Czech Republic for a term of six years. None of them may hold the position more than twice.
