Data Sources

The time series in the ARAD system present the statistical data for which the Czech National Bank is sponsor, as well as statistical data taken from other institutions.

The Czech National Bank is responsible for four areas: Money and banking statistics, Balance of payments statistics, Financial markets statistics and Financial accounts statistics.

MONETARY AND FINANCIAL STATISTICS are aggregated macroeconomic statistics of the financial sector excluding insurance corporations and pension funds, collected for the Czech Republic on an unconsolidated basis. These statistics are based exclusively on the host country principle, i.e. the respondents are residents of the Czech Republic. CNB statements are the data source for these statistics. They include:

• Balance sheet statistics of monetary financial institutions (MFIs) - sectoral balance sheet data for banks, money market funds and credit unions at various degrees of aggregation and consolidation.
• MFI interest rate statistics - statistics on the interest rates that MFIs apply to koruna-denominated loans and deposits vis-?-vis non-financial sectors (excluding the government) resident in the Czech Republic.
• Banking statistics - statistics for commercial banks resident in the Czech Republic on an unconsolidated basis for the purposes of in-depth analyses of the banking sector's assets and liabilities.
• Collective investment fund statistics - sectoral balance sheet of entities whose sole business activity is collective investment (mutual funds excluding money market funds and investment funds).
• Financial corporations engaged in lending - sectoral balance sheet of companies whose main or major business activity involves providing credit or loans or entering into agreements of a similar nature (e.g. financial leasing, factoring, consumer credit, hire-purchase financing etc.).

BALANCE OF PAYMENTS STATISTICS provide information on the Czech Republic's external economic relations. They are based on statistics provided by banks and non-bank entities and institutions.

• The balance of payments is an aggregate of external economic transactions over a certain period of time. Its basic structure consists of the current account, the capital account and the financial account, which includes international reserves. Foreign trade, which is included on the current account, comprises tangible exports of goods abroad and tangible imports of goods to the Czech Republic.
• The investment position and foreign debt indicators show the outstanding amounts of the relevant financial assets and liabilities as of a specific date. The outstanding amounts of the investment position and foreign debt are affected by exchange rate, price and other developments.
• The real effective exchange rate index indicates the increase or decrease in the country's competitiveness over a specified period compared to the base period.
• The nominal effective exchange rate index indicates the appreciation or depreciation of the currency vis-a-vis a basket of selected currencies over a specified period compared to the base period.

FINANCIAL MARKET STATISTICS provide fundamental information on the money, capital and foreign exchange markets in the Czech Republic. They are based on statistics from these markets and on CNB data.

• The money market section contains the key interest rates set by the CNB and the fixings of the PRIBOR interbank deposit market interest rates.
• The capital market section contains government bond yields calculated by the CNB from data on the trading results and prices on the Prague Stock Exchange.
• The foreign exchange market section contains the fixings of the exchange rates of the Czech koruna determined by the CNB and the nominal and real effective exchange rate indices calculated by the CNB.
